Interview Jan Kampshoff

What was the first art/design/architecture work that impressed you?

An Artwork which was called "Light-Space modulator" by László Moholy-
Nagy, developed in 1930. Moholy-Nagy himself described this kinetic
sculpture as an "apparatus for the demonstration of the effects of
light and movement".

How do you reflect on light as a material or media in your work?

First of all: We understand light as a “material”. Everything we see
is light – so light always a very important issue for us. Projects
like “Kubik” show perfectly how architecture and lightning become one
(Unity).

What was the guiding interest in your conceptual approach of your work which we will see during GLOW?

The approach is based on the relationship between nature and man-made
environment - an issue which is already given by the existing
situation at the Effenaar Park. The installation will behave like an
organic-structure and will react on its surroundings.

What made it interesting to work in Eindhoven?

Eindhoven is totally different to the places where the installation
was before (Berlin, Barcelona, Lisbon a.o.). The city has a strong
relationship to “light” and GLOW is bringing a new
dimension to it. We really appreciate being a part of it.

What kind of respond do you expect from the audience?

We are very curious how our concept works as an Artwork. In the past
it was used as an open air club for electronic music for hot summer
nights!
