Interview Kurt Laurenz Theinert

What was the first art/design/architecture work that impressed you?
James Turrelles lightrooms in the Sprengelmuseum in Hannover in  1992 and
"Descent into Limbo" by Anish Kapoor at the Documenta 1992.

How do you reflect on light as a material or media in your work?
Light as a medium in itself and not used for illumination is a pivotal concern of my work.
Movement and position in space are the starting-points in both my light installations and my photographic works.  In my work, light is a volatile and rapidly reacting medium that produces spacial effects from a distance.

What was the guiding interest in your conceptual approach of your work we see during GLOW?
The visual piano is an instrument which makes it possible to create moving images in a space in real time. The idea is that art happens only in perception by someone. So the most exciting thing is to create the artwork in the very moment when it is perceived. the ephemeral medium light is perfect for this artistic concept, as it can be precisely controlled, and - combined with music - creates an spontaneous atmosphere including space, artists, artwork and audience.

What made it interesting to work in Eindhoven?
"GLOW " is one of the most exciting art festivals. It's good being part of it and I'm looking forward to meeting all the other artists and artworks.

What kind of respond do you expect from the audience?
That they enjoy what we do.
