| Location The “Lichttoren” is considered as the figurehead of Eindhoven. The monumental Philips factory will get a new destination. It will be turned into a place where living, work and relax come together. There will be an underground car park with two levels. The ground floor will be used for commercial and public-specific activities like offices, shops, restaurants, terraces, a centre for fitness and wellness, an Art and Living hotel and artistic and creative activities. On the first floor 3,000 square meters have been reserved for companies, preferably in the field of creative industry, for example, PR and architectural companies. The second til the fifth floor will be reserved for lofts. It concerns parcels of 50 to 220 square meters, which can be linked up into a loft. These floors are fully stripped, all there is left is the bare concrete. This way the authentic construction of the pillars and joists are visible again. This industrial look is characteristic for a loft. On the side of the “Lichtplein” the building is extended with an Art- and Living hotel. This is a high-quality, luxuriously four star hotel with approximately 200 rooms and apartments. The hotel aims for guests of the city Eindhoven and surroundings. The redevelopment of the “Lichttoren” is carried out by AWG Architects from Antwerp. This firm has won the Design Award in 1999 and therefore they were invited to rebuild the “Lichttoren”. This firm tries to maintain and highlight the original concrete construction with the use of glass and metal. They have stripped the entire building. For its further implementation they use improved material, innovative technologies and improvement of the spaces. |
