About the project

Ingo Bracke uses projected light as a measurement to glean into architectural space. Like an echo of the past he maps notions of passage and transformation. He highlights them and engenders a cartography that appears like a lace veil on top of the surface of the building.

The site-specific intervention “LUM.IN.IS.LUX” is based on the juxtaposition of the ephemeral qualities of light and the technical way of describing them. Luminous intensity and luminous flux, lumen and lux, watt and voltage, resistance and power are parts of the parameters which have been checked in the Lichttoren (translates as “Tower of Light”) while it was serving as a test and proving site for lamps. In their graphical representation in signs and symbols they become the luminous material to alter the appearance of the icon of the city industrial development and its visual relevance in the new urban setting that has been developing around it.
