Interview What was the first art/design/architecture work that impressed you?As a child I was really impressed by engineers work, by bridges, towers, water systems etc.. I received a present, a wonderful modular steel construction box, from my relatives from the GDR (I lived in West Germany) for Christmas. I was impressed by the possibilities of modular systems. How do you reflect on light as a material or media in your work? Light is wonderful, with light you can change the perception of the world and psychologically it works for the people like this lantern of this deep sea fish, who is catching his food with the light in the totally dark! What was the guiding interest in your conceptual approach of your work which we will see during GLOW? The kitchen monument is concepted as an adaptive space, thought as a strategy to activate public urban spaces. For us it´s a big challenge to combine the content of being an art object with the possibility to create a space for people to meet, to rest, to express themselves and to reflect what they have seen before! What made it interesting to work in Eindhoven? In our time it´s very critical to work with light and especially with mediafacades in public space. Public space is overloaded with light. Light is used for commercials, advertisements and representation of power. The festival GLOW in Eindhoven is looking for different aspects of light, far away of commercialisation. Like I understood, it tries to give a new FREE view on the city of Eindhoven! What kind of respond do you expect from the audience? A difficult question. Of course I hope, the visitors will like our installation, more I wish, that the impression, what a city can be, will arise. |
