About the project

Project: “the invisible city”
Location: De Effenaar

Michael Najjar’s artistic research is centered on relevance and influence of digital media in cultural developments. His works reflect the process how, along with the present expansions of digital technologies, human perception and interpretation, communication, social patterns und ethics change. He creates “visions and utopias of future social structures, emerging under the impact of new technologies” as statements challenging the public discourse.

The video “the invisible city” is based on eight photographs of major cities like New York, Hong Kong, Dubai, Shanghai and Mexico City, taken from the tops of their highest buildings. By using a complex logarithmic program the images have been interwoven to fictional information. By projecting the resulting visuals on the facade of “De Effenaar”, the architectural background and the digital images mingle, staging esthetic phenomena as well as the doubt of readability of visual information.
