| Location Former Post Office In the next years the project ‘Station Location Southeast’ will arise between Central Station and the river the ‘Dommel’. Characteristic are the high residential tower on the Station Square (by far the highest to date with its 125 meters), the two large courts which are open on the side of the Stationsweg and a characteristic low building on pillars along the Dommel. The urban development plan of the architect is a fitting piece in the city, because it reacts at the surroundings in all directions. The plan is a working-out of the area vision Station Area ‘connecting and staying”, which reinforces the central urban environment surrounding the station. This project will be located on the place of the former post office and the car park along the Dommel. The project has several functions: • commercial • living • working • parking These different functions ensure that the plan is flexible. It guarantees liveliness, social security and an urban atmosphere. The buildings will have an open structure. The constructions include two public inner courts. The buildings of the project ‘Station Location Southeast’ are designed by several architects in different styles. It will be one whole by using a ‘plinth’ of approximately four layers. This plinth will add scale and accessibility and will emphasize the passage from the construction to public space. The plinth will also form the new eastern square border of the Station Square and will be situated 15 meters closer to the central station for a more prominent and stronger square border. Additionally the “Stationsweg” will be re-designed and upgraded by, among others, bringing back the flow “the Gender”. |
