About the project

Project: Leuchtende Vorbilde
Location: Former Post-office

With his works Vollrad Kutscher educes a visual repertoire of philosophical reflection of the contemporary. Referring to the present development of individuals and their society, guiding ideas and achievments, ethics and anchorpoints of identities, the works of Vollrad Kutscher emerge from a multitude of artistic media, amongst others are drawing, painting and photography, plastic arts, projection and performances. He alludes to material qualities to question their significance and sense-makings in their visual aspects, he reveals his installations and interventions to focus on positioning in and to challenge responsibility for cultural development.

With the installation “Leuchtende Vorbilder” (Shining Examples) the former post office becomes a public archive. In reference to the history of the engineering of artificial electricity and light Vollrad Kutscher turns the main hall into a portrait gallery. André Marie Ampère, Luigi Galvani, Alessandro Volta and James Watt are among those, who appear on the walls of the former post-office. Their effigies are painted on glass bulbs, lit by halogen lamps and projected. Being all made of artificial light they connect in space and time.
