About the project

Project: ACCESS
Location: Hall of Central Station

Marie Sester builds responsive media environments to reveal implications and ambiguities of diverse media technologies and the ideologies they are based on. Exploring the duality in their potential of being constructive and destructive, she deals with their qualities in relationship to human society and cultural developments.
The installation “ACCESS” is a web-controlled light- and sound-based environment. The control system is open to anyone and can be accessed online.

In the onsite installation at the hall of Eindhoven’s main station, individual pedestrians are tracked and put on the spot by web users. The tracked individual does not know who is watching them or why they are being tracked. Connecting the digital sphere with the analog one, the onsite installation, directs lights and sounds towards chosen pedestrians and highlights them. The experience of being in the spotlight is a physical and symbolic separation from others.
