About the project

Project: The Match of the Day
Location: Building Eindhovens Dagblad

Geert Mul’s artworks are rooted in the developments of the digital cultures. Many of his installations are based on computer- controlled visuals. He designs software programs to generate (collections of) images which are not yet defined in their information, content and context. The recognition of the unknown offers space for association and creative interpretation. It allows growing a critical distance to the compilation of habits and conventions in visual perception in and off the digital sphere.

Referring to the relevance of images in the flow of information Geert Mul developed a program that at random intervals it records images from about thirty international satellite television channels, storing daily 80.000 television fragments and checking them for structural similarities according to 5.000 characteristics. The best matches of two will appear in the six windows of the production place of Eindhovens Dagblad.
